Monday, January 13th, 2025 [New Orleans, LA] - Louisiana Appleseed proudly announces the launch of an estate planning event in partnership with Players Coalition and Habitat for Humanity New Orleans. Volunteer attorneys from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, Pro Bono Project New Orleans, Entergy, and the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society will be available for one-on-one consultations on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM at the Sanchez Community Center at 1616 Fats Domino Ave, New Orleans, LA, 70117.

"Players Coalition is proud to support Louisiana Appleseed in this initiative,” said Kelvin Beachum, Arizona Cardinals Offensive Tackle and Players Coalition Task Force Member. “Estate planning is a crucial step toward creating stability and preserving legacies for families and communities. We are honored to be part of this effort to provide access to vital legal resources and empower individuals to secure their futures.”

The event helps residents take meaningful steps toward securing their legacy by writing a will with the guidance of an attorney. The event will feature an innovative software application developed with Lagniappe Law Lab with support from the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Louisiana Bar Foundation.

Attendees who wish to create their will on-site must register online; eligibility restrictions will apply. Eligible participants wishing to meet with an attorney should bring a valid photo ID. Only those registered and subsequently given an appointment time will be able to speak with an attorney.

This event will offer two free informational presentations at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. by Louisiana Appleseed’s Heirs’ Property Staff Attorney, Jonathan Reynolds. These presentations will provide vital information about the importance of estate planning and what it means to be an heir. Registration is encouraged but not required. They are free and open to the public; walk-ins are welcome.

This event underscores Louisiana Appleseed's and its partners' commitment to promote access to justice and provide essential legal resources to the community. Future events are planned across the state throughout the year, expanding this critical service to more residents.
